چکیده

The authors present the MR appearance of an intracanalicular eighth nerve lipoma in a 30-year-old woman, describe the clinical manifestations, and discuss the possible etiology; biopsy findings were conclusive. Precontrast T1-weighted images should be obtained.

Enhancement of the eighth cranial nerve and labyrinth on MR imaging in sudden sensorineural hearing loss associated with human herpesvirus 1 infection: case report.

The case of a 61-year-old woman who presented with herpes labialis, subclinical meningitis, and sudden onset of bilateral sensorineural hearing loss is presented. Contrast-enhanced MR imaging showed marked bilateral enhancement of the intracanalicular portion of the eighth cranial nerve, right cochlea, and left vestibule. Polymerase chain reaction was positive for human herpesvirus 1 obtained f...

Gd-DTPA-enhanced MR imaging of cochlear schwannoma.

The majority of eighth cranial nerve tumors are acoustic schwannomas, with greater than 90% arising from the vestibular division within the internal auditory canal. Most originate near the porus acusticus at the gliai-Schwann cell interface. The minority of vestibular schwannomas arise at other locations along the nerve, such as within the vestibule or at the fundus of the internal auditory can...

Asymmetric temporal bone pneumatization: an MR imaging pitfall.

A healthy 44-year-old woman was evaluated neurologically because she had had dizziness without vertigo and right facial pain for several months. The pain was not typical for trigeminal neuralgia, and she had had no loss of hearing. Physical examination showed no abnormalities. Cranial MR imaging was ordered for evaluation of the cerebellopontine angle. Axial MR images showed apparently normal e...

MR imaging of the acoustic nerves and small acoustic neuromas at 0.6 T: prospective study.

To evaluate the capability of magnetic resonance (MR) in imaging normal acoustic nerves, 12 volunteers without signs or symptoms of intracranial disease were examined using a 0.6 T superconductive system. Several spin-echo (SE) pulse sequences were tested to identify the optimal sequence for demonstration of the acoustic nerve bundle. Repetition times (TRs) varied from 300 to 2000 msec and echo...

Idiopathic, herpetic, and HIV-associated facial nerve palsies: abnormal MR enhancement patterns.

PURPOSE To determine specific criteria that can be used to define normal versus abnormal MR contrast enhancement of the facial nerve. METHODS Twenty-three patients with acute unilateral inflammatory peripheral facial nerve palsy were examined on a 1.5-T MR using multiplanar T1-weighted spin-echo sequences before and after injection of gadopentetate dimeglumine. These MR patterns were compared...
